Buster

The Density Meter and contraband detector stands out among its competitors. Rather than using radio waves, ultraviolet waves or millimeter waves, the Buster contraband detector uses a low intensity gamma radiation emitter and scintillation detector which allows it to quickly scan cars for hidden contraband in around 5 minutes; it takes a little longer for larger vehicles. It can detect contraband through reinforced plastic, wood or fabric. The Buster now comes equipped with Rad-Aware® radiation detection technology. This enables first responders to detect possible dirty-bomb detonation and establish a safe perimeter.

Contraband Detector Specifications

Display: The Contraband Detector has a 3.5 digit Liquid-Crystal Display (LCD) with indicators for "minus sign" and LO BAT. The display has a pushbutton operated electroluminescent back light panel and refreshes every ½ second. The display makes it possible to use the Buster in any lighting condition including night or very dark spaces. Included with the display unit is a remote reading display and connecting cable to make inspections easier.

Source Shield Assembly: The Source Shield is assembled using stainless steel parts. To ensure maximum safety, the shield assembly is spring loaded and will automatically retract the source when the operating trigger has been released. A RED indicator light will be visible while the Source is in operation mode.

Scan Rate: 0.25 second per reading

Alarm: The unit produces an audible alarm, driven by a microprocessor, when in the appropriate operating mode. The alarm, when actuated, will produce 59db pulses for 0.50 seconds duration. When the optional headset is in use, the alarm will not be heard externally.

Operation Modes: The unit includes six separate modes:

• Raw Data Mode produces no alarm and current display value reading
• Data Scan Mode produces an alarm and current value as well as displays a reading
• Zero Scan Mode produces an alarm and zero-based display value reading
• Calibration Mode used to calibrate the unit
• Self-Diagnosis Mode used to allow for self-diagnosis
• Lock Mode temporarily locks the operating display to make it possible to take a reading in places that are inaccessible.

Auto Alarm Trip: To assure the unit has the most sensitive operation, the microprocessor will automatically adjust the point at which the alarm is tripped based on an internal standard deviation calculation formula.

Calibration: Units have a Universal Calibration Standard which permits similar units to be calibrated to a common base. All Buster K910 units will have a reading within ±2% of each other after they have been calibrated. Calibration will be calculated to compensate for decay of the source as well as taking routine internal component aging into account. Calibration is completed within 30 seconds and allows users to exactly compare calibration results over the telephone.

Battery: The unit uses 9V alkaline transistor batteries, which are easy to replace while in the field and commonly available. A single 9V alkaline battery will operate the unit for up to three months with daily use.

Carrying Case: Also included with each Contraband Detection Kit is a lockable high impact case. The case has padding on the inside to protect each unit and a document pocket to hold manuals and accessories.
